The Digital Past Conference, launched in 2009, is an annual two-day conference organised by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales which showcases innovative digital technologies and techniques for recording and understanding the historic environment. Each year this exciting conference brings together between 150 and 175 individuals from the commercial, public, academic, and voluntary sectors, and aims to promote learning, discussion and debate around a range of digital technologies in current use, or in development, to record and understand our heritage.
Running for the twelfth year, in light of the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 Digital Past 2021 will be held as an online conference via the Zoom platform. One day of presented talks on Wednesday 10 February will be supplemented by workshops across the week of 8 to 12 February 2021.
Digital Past is the ideal opportunity to promote your organisation to delegates and speakers from across the UK as far afield as Chile, the USA and Australia. In recent years, the conference has included speakers from Microsoft Research UK, The V&A, V-MUST and Europeana.
In 2021 the conference will have two strands, one based around the technical aspects of survey, data processing and management and archiving, and one focusing on interpretation, engagement and education, with particular attention to: Virtual access to technology, Diversity in digital cultural heritage and Digital heritage, the environment and climate change.
Now in its twelfth year, the profile of the Digital Past conference has grown year on year. Promoted via the dedicated conference website, which remains online providing long-term reference and information beyond the event, as well as the Royal Commission website and social media feeds including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, the event reaches out far beyond those delegates who attend.
Each year the conference attracts a range of sponsors from commercial, academic and public sectors, an aspect which allows organisations and companies to promote their product, services, projects and research and helps ensure that the conference is made as financially open and accessible as possible to all.
