Ceredigion People Tell Their Stories
Our successful scanning events this summer saw people kindly bring in photographs and other archive material to be scanned for upload to the People’s Collection Wales website. As a result of these fascinating contributions we have been able to add several collections to the website, which include written and oral histories, as well as historical photographs and documents. The collections mainly relate to people and places in Aberystwyth, including:
- The opening ceremony of Neuadd Goffa, Penparcau in 1933 – photos brought in by Gwilym Thomas
- UCW Aber playing fields, photos of cricket, rugby, and athletics events from the 1930s-1950s – photos brought in by Meirion Morgan, head groundsman 1947-2002
- Evan Thomas – coachbuilder, blacksmith & milk delivery family from Southgate – photos and archive material brought in by Gwilym Thomas
- Various photographs and archive material, including posters for the Little Theatre and Royal Pier Pavilion – brought in by Charlie Downes
- Artefacts including an antique pistol, cattle shoes and an ocarina, brought in by Beti Gwenfron Evans and Gwenllian Jones
- Description of a Welsh family’s move to London in the 1920s-1930s, including Oral history recordings, told by Beti Gwenfron Evans
This amazing variety of contributions from local people is helping to bring our local history to life. It is hoped that the items collected so far will encourage many more people to tell their story by uploading their own historical items to People’s Collection Wales: http://www.peoplescollectionwales.co.uk
