Come and join us next week for two Festival of Archaeology walks exploring Pendinas!
Next Wednesday and Thursday, 19 and 20 July 2023, when Beca Davies, our Pendinas Project Community Archaeologist, will be leading two free guided walks exploring the hidden natural and historic wonders of Pendinas hillfort site in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
The first will be held on Wednesday 19 July at 2.30pm and will be a wheelchair-friendly and accessible tour, when Beca will be joined by local ecologist, Chloe Griffiths. This walk will weave along the lower part of the hillfort and through the glade by the ‘old tip’ site. They will chat about the many species of wildlife that call this monument home and discuss some ancient and more recent changes this hillfort has seen.

The second walk will be held the following day and follow the middle slope of the hillfort and will further explore the natural and man- made wonders of this unique hillfort site. Beca will be joined by Richard Suggett, former senior investigator (historic buildings) at the Commission, who will piece together the clues about the plan and history of the ruined farmhouse, Pant yr Allt, the watering hole (for lemonade!) for generations of explorers of this historic hillfort, including Professor Darryl Fforde and his excavators in the 1930s!
