Copyright for Archivists and Records Managers, Tim Padfield. London: Facet Publishing, 2019
I came across this book very early on in my career at the Royal Commission and have found it one of the most useful. A copy is always on my desk and it is referred to constantly for all copyright queries.

The legislation surrounding copyright is highly complex and open to frequent changes as technology advances and new ways of copying and storing material are found. In my job it is essential to keep up to date with this and Tim Padfield’s book, now on its sixth edition, is an essential tool for doing this. It is easy to use and provides a comprehensive guide to copyright in the UK. Not only does it answer basic questions about the nature of copyright and ownership, it provides an invaluable guide to the laws pertaining to unpublished material that are commonly found in archives. I particularly love the fantastic charts at the back that provide quick guides on copyright duration. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about copyright.
