Data Cleansing the Catalogue
‘Data cleansing of the catalogue’; perhaps not the most exciting combination of words, but, it has led me to the unearthing of many discoveries. On retirement I was searching for a completely different pursuit – and later a distraction – that could utilise the accumulated skills from a scientific research career.

With long term side interests in archaeology and architecture the opportunity to volunteer at the RCAHMW resolved the search exactly. Delving through the many journals and periodicals: Moated Sites Research Group Reports to Journal of Conflict Archaeology via Local History in Ceredigion, I came across amazing worlds preserved in remarkable detail. It was an opportunity to read the most obscure documents that would normally have been passed by but each publication contained authors’ lifetime specialisations, even obsessions. Each day’s cleansing would reveal something of interest and future “duw!, duw!” moments will lead me to new directions of interest.
