Inside Welsh homes, Rachael Barnwell and Richard Suggett. Aberystwyth: Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, 2012

In my capacity as Equality and Diversity Officer, I have the great pleasure of working on our various initiatives (under the ‘Memory Archive’ banner) promoting the Royal Commission’s visual resources for reminiscence with people living with dementia.

When I created the very first People’s Collection Wales (PCW) Memory Archive collections, it was to one of the Commission’s own publications that I turned for inspiration.

The bilingual Inside Welsh homes / Y tu fewn i gartrefi Cymru by Rachael Barnwell and Richard Suggett is a beautifully illustrated book taking us inside Welsh houses from prehistory to the modern day. It formed the basis for Memory Archive collections on Living Rooms, Bathrooms and Kitchens, all of which get their own chapter in the book (and plenty more).

It is also available to purchase as an eBook via our Bookshop.
