Newtown Bypass: recording a major infrastructure project from the air
With the opening of the new £80 million Newtown Bypass in Powys on the 14 February 2019, here is a chance to see some ‘before and after’ views gathered by the Royal Commission during their national programme of aerial reconnaissance in summer 2016 and 2018.
The flying programme records archaeology of all periods, but also records views illustrative of the ‘people, landscape and history of Wales’. This includes major civil engineering projects, ensuring that aerial views of key aspects of Welsh history are preserved for posterity in the National Monuments Record of Wales.
