Preserving the Past… Enriching the Future…
Atlantic Geomatics are being welcomed back to Digital Past after providing one of our most popular Unconference session talks ever in 2016.
Tim Viney, Managing Director, will discuss their Burial Ground Management System, a comprehensive system for recording and mapping burial grounds utilising a range of high-end UAV photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning. Combining the resulting mapping with a comprehensive database of information, including headstone inscriptions, dates, photographs and historic plans creates a rich management and research tool that informs both understanding and preservation of these important historical sites.
In conjunction with Sarah Perons, Care of Churches Officer for the Diocese of Llandaff, the benefits of the system will be discussed in relation to a pilot project run by the Church in Wales, showing how the increased accessibility of the data will benefit both those managing places of worship, and school, historians, family researchers and the general public alike.
