Enquiry Service

The National Monuments Record of Wales welcomes enquiries from individuals and organisations interested in the many and varied aspects of the heritage of Wales, for example:

  • Owners of historic properties.
  • Farmers interested in archaeological features in the landscape.
  • Community, local or family history groups.
  • School teachers and pupils.
  • Local authority planners.
  • Further, higher and continuing education students.
  • Professional archaeologists and architects.
  • TV, film or publishing companies.

The National Monuments Record of Wales is available for consultation via Coflein. Material may be requested by completing the online enquiry form.

Our public enquiry service, however, may also be contacted directly by telephone, e-mail or in person at our library and search room in Aberystwyth. The specialist staff will provide information and help to answer your enquiry by searching our databases and archive material and will inform you of any relevant information which may be held in the archive.

Our specialist reference library contains books and journals, which may be consulted during public opening hours. Copies of material from the archive may be purchased at the Royal Commission or by using the enquiry service order form. Some material may be subject to copyright restrictions.

Visits by educational and special interest groups can be arranged to view material selected from the archive collections. Members of staff will also give lectures and talks to groups and societies.

We provide bilingual services.
